What other way to spend New Years Eve than to be a part of an 8-hour mtb race? At least that’s what the participants of Rolling Grounds Wicked Wombat were up to. I myself was only there to watch this time, excited however to check out the trail networks available at Bungarra. Where the event was being held.

The course length was around 15kms, depending on weather riders chose the tougher yet quicker A line or a milder but longer B line. All that was needed from the racers was to complete as many laps as possible in the 8-hour time frame weather riding the race solo or as part of a team.

 The trails at Bungarra offered a great range of riding to be enjoyed through out the day. From tight twisting single track, open flowing berms and rollers, pinchy switchback climbs to technical rock garden descents.

The sun was out all day and the temps were quite high which made sure teams had a well set up pit area with plenty of tents for shade and ample of supplies to keep riders going all day. Which proved to be very important with the top riders completing up to 17 laps for the day and everyone else completing at least 5 or more laps. 

Proving this event catered for the serious marathon rider all the way down to teams of riders ranging through all the generations with plenty of younger up coming racers giving the trails and their bike a real work out over the day.

In the end everyone involved enjoyed a great day of riding in great conditions, on fun trails. The type of event I would recommend being a part of if you enjoy testing your skills and endurance while having some good times racing with your friends.
