As winter closes in, mountain biking in the high country is slowly winding down to make way for the coming ski season. With this in mind Thredbo had locked in the opportunity to close off the Mtb season with a bang, hosting two races set up by Rocky Trail Entertainment. Round 3 of The Fox Roller Coaster Enduro series and Round 1 of the Red Ass Downhill series. A decent weather system hit the region early in the week, giving the resort a fresh dusting of snow, some seriously cold temperatures and enough moisture to compact down the trails from dust bowl to hero dirt. So by the time the race day came round, conditions were perfect for the 300 plus competitors entered in Saturdays Enduro race. The format for the Enduro race saw riders having to complete two timed runs of Thredbo’s Kosciuszko flow trail, 5.8kms of gravity based trail, making sure riders had equal levels of fitness and skill to take them to the top of their selected category. Downhill practice was open during the Enduro giving the racers a floating crowd and a great amount of support, creating a great buzz all over the mountain. By the end of the day everyone involved looked to have had a fantastic day racing the fun track. Sunday played host to the downhill race and once again produced a packed field of racers, many backing up for their second race for the weekend. The vibe for Sunday followed suit from Saturday with everyone out to have a good time with a bit of competition thrown in to give it some added interest at the end of the day.  The track was in mint condition, compact and fast up top, then drying out towards the crowded finish area and the racing was nothing short of spectacular with many categories won and lost by a matter of milliseconds.   The weekends’ racing was fantastic and was the perfect way to see out Thredbo’s Mtb season.
