Yet another week flies by and another awesome weekend of mountain bike madness was had, continuing the very full calendar of racing through March. Thredbo Resort hosted the Australian Interschool Champs, a competition that grows substantially every year with the increasing popularity of Mtb racing.

Schools travelled from all over bringing their teams to compete in as many events as possible over the three days of racing. The weekends racing kicked off on Friday afternoon with some fun, head to head Dual Compressor action and with over 300 kids entered into competition the racing lasted late i the day, finishing a little after the sun had dropped behind the mountains.

Day 2 was for the downhill, which once again produced a massive turnout of riders blazing their way down Thredbo’s well-known downhill track. An alternate route was set up for the younger and less experienced riders, to avoid the extremely technical sections of trail at the top of the course. This followed the upper sections of the flow trail before linking back up with the downhill track where B lines are more readily available.

It took most of the day to get all of the downhill racers through the course so the seeding runs were cancelled to make sure nothing ran over time and everyone could get a bit of a rest in before Saturday nights pump track challenge where selected riders from each school could show off their riding skills in front of some big crowds. The turn out for pump track was impressive with all non competitors track side to watch the action, see their mates compete for their school and earn some bonus points for the weekend.

It was an early start on Sunday for the XC racing with the youngest of all competitors kicking off first, making a small mark on history as the first riders to officially race the new XC course built by Dirt Art in the weeks leading into the event.  Racing continued back to back through every division over the morning, with all the competitors working hard in the dry and dusty conditions.

The weekend finished up with presentations for all events, where kids  accepted their accolades and banded together in teams to collect trophies to take back to school.

A very successful weekend all round and awesome to see so many kids getting involved in one of the greatest sports there is. Once again Thredbo MTB and Resort ran another outstanding event.
