Snowy Triple Trail

November 22, 2015

What better way to get back into the swing of the coming summers race season than with a local Cross Country hit out that utilizes the best of the three separate trail networks in the area. Tyrolean, Bungarra and Lake Crackenback. First off the mark was a 9km time trial featuring some of Tyrolean villages best and most technical trails. Including the top half of the new Three Lions trail, built this winter by the now local legends riders Paul and Andy. The 9km course consisted of three solid climbs followed by quality descents spaced evenly throughout, making it enjoyable from start to finish. Add this to the spectacular views over the Lake to the Mountains and anyone involved was up for a great start to the weekend of racing. The fastest rider through the course was Dylan Cooper, who completed the course in a blistering 27:45s, managing to put a gap of 50s between the closest rivals. Stage two kicked off at 3pm out at Bungarra estate. Another one of Jindabyne’s well established trail networks. True to form of the triple trail courses this one was another tough one. The competitors were up for two laps of a 6km loop, a loop that plays host to a heart pounding 2km climb designed to keep even the fittest on their A game. Racing was exciting with everyone giving their all whilst smiling most of the way, a tribute to the quality of trails on offer. Day 2 and everyone made their way to Crackenback for stage three, the longest race of the three stages. Starting from the main street, the 12km course flows around the village before looping out along the stunning scenery of the Thredbo River. Getting extremely technical through the farthest end of the loop, throwing a mental battle into the mix of tough trails and two days of racing.

The racing for stage three was great with all competitors giving it their all. From the elite races out front right down to first time racers tackling trails more difficult than they had ridden before. The atmosphere at all three stages was fantastic, something I put down to amazing locations, quality trails, friendly participants and great event organizers. Big thanks to Rolling Ground Jindabyne for putting it all together.
